There are mainly two types of refrigerant for the home air conditioning systems of today.
The older refrigerant, R-22 Freon, (HCFC22) which is being phased out and the newer refrigerant 410A.
The Old R-22 is still in many of the air conditioning systems and is still the main refrigerant used for home air conditioning systems.
The R-22 Freon was a great refrigerant for efficiency, however, not quite as safe to the ozone as the newer 410A refrigerant.
Thus, the EPA has ruled that all new home air conditioners must be made with 410A refrigerant as of 2015.
